Beauty In Imperfection…

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” Henry David Thoreau, Walden, Conclusion, 1854

I tend to believe that there are more than one right way to do things. My generation seems to be rewriting the rules in a lot of areas, forcing others to re-evaluate the older way of doing things.

I would encourage you to open up to new things and new way if looking at things…different isn’t bad or wrong, it’s just different. There is often still beauty in imperfection. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist and I still struggle with being ok with imperfect work. Musically speaking, take a band like Sigur Rós, they often times have very imperfect music…parts don’t line up entirely and they have tempo changes, yet their music is clearly popular and beautiful. Art as another example. Paintings and sculptures are not perfect. Lines are not straight, colors bleed into each other, and proportions are off; yet they are clearly adored but countless generations and will inspire people not matter what. And this world is imperfect, yet I’m still awed by its inherit beauty: sunsets, oceans, mountain, nature, wildlife, architecture, etc.

Despite all the imperfection:
We still call art beautiful.
We are still moved by music.
We are still taking new photographs of this earth everyday.

We can be proud of walking to the beat of a different drummer. It’s what makes us unique and what makes us special creations.

I’m learning to find new beauty in the imperfect knowing that one day all things will be made new. And that just may mean that it will be my perspective that’s redeemed.

How do u find beauty in the broken(art, religion, relationships, music, etc)?
